According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the total population of the mainland of China (including 31 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the Central Government and servicemen of the People's Liberation Army of China, excluding Hong Kong, Macao Special Administrative Region, Taiwan Province and overseas Chinese) at the end of 2017 was 139.8 million, an increase of 7.37 million over the end of last year. In terms of age composition, the working-age population aged 16 to 59 is 9.99 million, accounting for 64.9% of the total population; the population aged 60 and above is 24.9 million, accounting for 17.3% of the total population, of which 158.31 million people aged 65 and above, accounting for 11.4% of the total population. At the same time, from 2000 to 2018, the elderly population aged 60 years and over in China increased from 126 million to 249 million, almost doubling, accounting for 17.9% of the total population from 10.2%.
Thus, China's aging population is becoming more and more serious. Population aging will inevitably bring about many problems, which restrict the development of society, economy and other aspects.
However, although the aging population will bring many negative effects, it has a positive impact in some industries.
According to the Global Times, Zhou Jincan, the manager of Shaanxi China Travel Service, said in an interview: "Tourism elderly-care has become a trend among the elderly in recent years, since those people have a lot of time and money after retirement. For example, we have packages to the warmer southern cities in winter and to the cooler northeastern cities in summer."

The aging of the population is undoubtedly a new opportunity for the tourism industry. As a result of the prevalence of free walker, the group travel business of traditional tourism has been affected, and many tour guides are even on the verge of unemployment. However, with the rise of "sunset group" in recent years, people in the tourism industry feel that the industry ushered in a new spring.
